11 Answers to 11 Questions

  1. What is your earliest childhood memory?
I was 2 or 3 and I got salmonella from eating raw cookie dough with my mom. I remember throwing up on my toys and then getting to watch The Little Mermaid with my dad because my mom got sick too.
  2. Where have you always wanted to visit but haven’t yet?
    ALASKA!
  3. N*Sync, Backstreet Boys, or 98 Degrees?
Actually – none of the above. The Beach Boys. I’ve always listened to “oldies” and probably always will.
  4. When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An artist, a meteorologist, a math teacher, and finally, a LIBRARIAN!
  5. Do you believe in ghosts? Why or why not?
Yes – because you have to believe in things that you’ve seen…
  6. If you had to change your first name to something else, what would it be and why?
Laura – because I have always wanted to live in the adventures of Laura Ingalls Wilder.
  7. Coffee or tea?
tea – I’m 1+ year without coffee/caffeine in its entirety! And I feel great.
  8. Which animal would you be if you had to choose?
A turtle – they’re always at home – they’re always the underdog – and no one cares if they take their sweet time to cross the street.
  9. What’s your favorite trait or physical feature about yourself?
I love my hair. It’s healthy, beautiful and grows quickly, so I’m able to chop it off and donate it to organizations that make wigs for children with cancer.
  10. Are there any foreign languages you’d like to learn yet in your lifetime?
I’d like to learn German and Norwegian.
  11. If you had a set of triplets tomorrow, what would you name them? (Boys, girls, or any combination.)
The Three Stooges! Okay. Kidding. I really don’t know, but they’d be named from characters I’ve fallen in love with through reading.

11 New Questions for You! – anyone can answer, but I’m specifically tagging 3 other bloggers (Nicole, Annie, Julia) because I’d love to hear their answers 🙂

  4. What 2 people would you take with you to revisit that place?
  5. Do you prefer to swim in lakes, a pool or the ocean? Why?
  6. Are you an early bird or a night owl?
  7. When and where did you learn to ride a bike?
  8. You and only you are being sent to an island furnished with food, water and shelter for a lifetime – what 3 comfort items do you bring with you?
  9. What’s your all-time favorite television show?
  10. Chocolate or Vanilla?
  11. What’s your favorite board game?

An eBook Challenge

January 3, 2012

Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the library was full of people who received ereaders as gifts. We have gladly helped each and every patron and provided service in whatever way we can. In some ways, though, it is difficult because we (librarians) are learning about ebooks right along with the patrons. During the past week, I started thinking about my use of ebooks and my personal Kindle Touch and NOOK Color. Yes. I had 2 ereaders until I gave my younger brother my NOOK Color for Christmas.

I’m more likely to check out a traditional print book than go onto my account and check out an ebook. I think this is because I spend the day being surrounded by print books in the physical library. So I’ve created a challenge for myself.

  • Every novel I purchase for myself this year will be an ebook.
  • When borrowing a book from the library, I will borrow the ebook if it is available (even if that means I have to put it on hold and wait for it). If no ebook is available for the title I want to read, I will check out the print copy.

That’s it. Shouldn’t be too hard, right? We’ll see! Look for an update in a few months.

Married! (10.22.2011)

November 30, 2011

I attempt to avoid writing personal-life-related posts, but I wanted to give a little update about one of the best days of my life. I married my best friend on October 22, 2011. His name is Jeremiah and here are five reasons I fell in love with him:

  • He spends each day trying to make the world a better place.
  • His family is his number one priority.
  • He watches Wheel of Fortune almost every evening.
  • Not a day goes by when he doesn’t smile, laugh or thank someone.
  • He buys me lunch. sometimes. And he lets me pay. sometimes.

In any event… here’s our holiday card and some wedding photos. My cousins did an amazing job at photographing our wonderful day. Enjoy!

#cpd23 – Thing 2

June 22, 2011

Still on track (albeit a day late) with #cpd23. Thing 2 invites us to look at other people’s blog posts and comment on them. I’ve done that and realized that one of the toughest things about commenting is deciding which profile you want to comment from – Twitter, Facebook, WordPress, Google, etc. I have accounts with all of those places, but I don’t necessarily want to post as all of them. I’ve been choosing to post with my WordPress account for a couple of reasons:

  1. It (hopefully) links right back to my blog – which is where I want people to read about me.
  2. It puts a photo of me up – sometimes that doesn’t work with my Google account.
  3. I don’t want to fuss with the app verification links with Facebook.

And with that, I end Thing 2 of #cpd23.

Oh and while I would love to say I am a cat-loving librarian, I am instead the proud mommy/owner of LeRoy – a rescued poodle/yorkshire terrier mix. Here he is!
